Tourism Threadlines

Now Enrolling for Pilot Phase

Destinations know they need to stand out. They know their history, culture, and local stories are what make them unique.

But in practice, that’s hard to execute.

Those stories are spread across museums, historic sites, and community partners — each doing great work, but often operating independently. Without a clear way to connect them, it’s difficult to create a cohesive narrative or visitor experience that truly sets a destination apart.

I’m currently piloting a new approach to help destinations find their tourism threadline — the continuous story and experience that connects sites across a place.

Who This is For

This pilot is designed for:

  • DMOs and tourism organizations

  • Heritage areas and regional partnerships

  • Communities with multiple museums or cultural sites

  • Gateway towns along trails or scenic byways

  • Destinations looking to better connect their assets into a unified experience

Tourism Threadlines will help you

  • Create a structure for collaboration among community partners that builds trust and demonstrates value

  • Define and promote what makes your destination different from neighboring communities competing for the same visitors

  • Identify, promote, and support the authentic experiences that define your place, ensuring they remain visible, accessible, and part of the visitor experience

  • Bring partners and storytellers together around shared themes, so you’re telling stronger, more coordinated stories

  • Help organizations understand how they fit into a bigger picture, so visitors experience your destination as a cohesive whole

  • Improve visitor engagement and length of stay by making it easier for visitors to discover and experience connected places across your destination

How Tourism Threadlines Works

This work is structured to bring partners together, identify your destination’s threadlines, and turn them into clear, usable visitor experiences.

Step 1: Gather Input from Partners

I start by working with your team and community partners to collect stories, assets, and perspectives from across your destination. This ensures the process reflects what already exists, rather than starting from scratch.

You partners may include:

  • Museums and historic sites

  • Cultural organizations

  • Tourism and community partners

  • Business owners and entrepreneurs

  • Community artists, performers, historians, storytellers

Step 2: Identify Your Threadlines

Using that input, I identify the key themes and connections that form your destination’s tourism threadlines — the stories and experiences that links places together.

This step helps:

  • Surface common themes

  • Connect related sites

  • Highlight what makes your destination distinct for use in your marketing and content creation

Step 3: Align and Refine Together

We bring partners together to review and refine the threadlines, ensuring it feels accurate, authentic, and valuable to everyone involved.

This is where:

  • Partners see how they fit into the bigger picture

  • Trust and alignment are built

  • Shared direction begins to take shape

Step 4: Turn It Into Visitor Experiences

Finally, we translate your threadlines into clear, usable outputs, such as:

  • Itineraries and visitor journeys

  • Themed experiences across sites

  • Ideas for marketing and content

So your stories become something visitors can actually follow and experience.

The result is a more connected, compelling destination where visitors can move easily between experiences and understand what makes your place unique.
